Peter Blackburn

ORCHESTRA LEADER

I have been playing the violin in orchestras for nearly 40 years and have enjoyed learning, through playing with other musicians, as well as getting to know the standard orchestral works.

My family moved to Preston when I was six. I attended Greenlands Primary School where the headmaster selected me for violin lessons through the visiting violin teacher. I can remember as a teenager, playing 2nd violin with the original Preston Concert Orchestra which stopped in the early 1960's.

I studied at Lancaster University under Paul Robertson of the Medici String Quartet. After graduating, I settled in Lancaster teaching Violin and Piano in the Lancaster and Preston areas.

It was great news to me when I heard Preston Symphony Orchestra was starting in January 2024 so I could once again enjoy my orchestral playing.

I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Preston Symphony Orchestra and hope with Marco, to lead the orchestra on to greater things in 2026 as the orchestra continues to develop and progress.
